On May 14 and 15 an online conference will examine the role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in advancing progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in the context of disruptions caused by the pandemic.
Among the speakers will be United Nations Undersecretary-General Fabrizio Hochschild, Chief Digital Officer Robert Opp of the United Nations Development Programme, U.S. National Academy of Sciences President Marcia McNutt, and U.S. National Academy of Medicine President Victor Dzau, and other leaders in science and international development.

The conference, co-chaired by the Permanent Missions of Israel and Ghana to the United Nations, is organized by participants from the United Nations’ Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum in lieu of the annual in-person Multi-Stakeholder Forum on STI, which is not being held this year because of the pandemic.
In addition to the Permanent Missions of Israel and Ghana, the conference is co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Mexico, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Barbados, Japan, Rwanda, and Kenya to the United Nations, in cooperation with the Office of the Special Advisor to the Secretary-General working on Digital Cooperation, and the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
