The workshop supporting the Institute of Medicine study: Review of WIC Food Packages will be held on March 31, 2016 in the Beckman Center auditorium with a public comment session on April 1, 2016 in the Beckman Center’s Huntington room. The workshop supports Phase II of the study, which will: review the current scientific literature as well as government reports and other relevant publications to assess the current WIC food packages for consistency with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans; review the nutritional requirements of the WIC population and conduct analyses of dietary and energy intakes; conduct analysis of food expenditures of the WIC population; review and assess the impact of cultural food preferences on nutritional needs and food intake patterns; and develop plans for cost analyses on WIC food package components, food group and subgroup costs, and information on program participation.
Attendees are invited to provide public comments, up to three minutes in length, on April 1, 2016. If you cannot attend in person, comments can be submitted here or emailed to WICFoodPackages@nas.edu. Public comments will be webcast.
