Adopted by global leaders in September 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) build upon the success of the eight anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals adopted and in 2000 and supported globally through 2015. The 17 goals and 169 targets are expansive in their reach and will require collaborative, transnational efforts in the coming years if targets are to be achieved. Violence features prominently in many of the goals themselves, either explicitly within selected targets and goals or in more subtle ways as potential mitigating factors to the ultimate success of a given target or goal.
On May 12-13, 2016, The Forum on Global Violence Prevention will hold a 2-day workshop to explore and illuminate the ways in which violence prevention efforts fit into the global agenda and to begin to identify the ways in which the governments (including the U.S.), non-profits, multilaterals, and NGOs, and industry leaders can engage in and advance the violence prevention as a priority within the post-2015 agenda. Workshop presentations and discussions will pull from a broad variety of disciplines and perspectives, including the public health, research, government, human rights, policy, and non-profit sectors.”
The workshop is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required to attend. This workshop will be available online via live video webcast for those unable to attend in-person.
A preliminary agenda for the workshop will be posted on this webpage as soon as it becomes available.
