Today, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) released a video encouraging Latinx/Latino(a)/Hispanic Americans to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
The video, which features 11 Latinx/Latino(a)/Hispanic members of the NAM, highlights the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, reinforces their integral role in bringing families and communities back together safely, and features personal affirmations from the NAM members that they have all been safely vaccinated, alongside their family and friends. In addition, a total of 21 Latinx/Latino(a)/Hispanic NAM members signed a letter affirming their confidence in the vaccine and urging their community to recognize the debilitating risks of the virus that is 2.3 times as deadly to the Latinx/Latino(a)/Hispanic community as it is to their White peers.
This video, steered by NAM members Carlos del Rio of Emory University, Elena Fuentes-Afflick of University of California San Francisco and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Claire Brindis of University of California San Francisco, is available in English and Spanish and accompanied by resources on how to book a vaccine appointment, obtain a free ride to a vaccine appointment, and stories from individuals who overcame their own vaccine hesitancy.
