WASHINGTON, DC (October 28, 2020) – A new report from the Global Future Council on Longevity presents opportunities to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on older people. The council, which was convened to inform and drive action and impact by engaging stakeholders to address issues around COVID-19 and the ability of older persons to thrive during and after the pandemic, is co-chaired by National Academy of Medicine (NAM) President Victor Dzau, MD.
The five thematic areas discussed in the paper include 1) ageism in the time of COVID-19; 2) converging pandemics: isolation and loneliness; 3) home and community-based care; 4) long-term care facilities; and 5) the impact of COVID-19 on older adults in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
