Starting today, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) will accept applications from researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs from all backgrounds for the NAM Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, February 24 through the website of the American Federation for Aging Research.

Individuals and teams residing in the United States are invited to submit a 2-page application detailing a bold, innovative, and potentially transformative idea to improve the mental, physical, and social well-being of people as they age. Applications may originate from any field or combination of fields and may focus on any stage of life, as long as they ultimately promote health as people age. Those who complete an application will be considered for one of up to 24 NAM Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards worth $50,000 each, as well as travel to Washington, DC for the inaugural Innovator Summit in 2021.

The NAM Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards are funded by Johnson & Johnson Innovation (JJI). Catalyst Award winners will be considered for additional support from JJI in later phases of the competition.

In October 2019, the NAM, in collaboration with eight global organizations representing more than 40 countries and territories, launched the Healthy Longevity Global Competition. This multiyear, multimillion-dollar international competition seeks breakthrough innovations to extend human health and function later in life.

For detailed information on the available funding, participating countries and territories, application instructions, and eligibility requirements, visit HealthyLongevityChallenge.org. As part of the competition’s commitment to share knowledge and stimulate an entire field by not only rewarding innovative ideas but also sharing those ideas with the world, summaries of all winning ideas will be available on the competition website starting in summer 2020.

Part of the NAM’s Healthy Longevity Global Grand Challenge, the competition will unfold in parallel with the NAM’s Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity, an international, independent, and multidisciplinary initiative that will assess available evidence and recommend strategies for global societies to maintain and advance the health and productivity of aging populations.
