Background:

Many children in the DC area are exposed to lead through unsafe living conditions, such as lead paint or contaminated water. Another threat to children’s well-being is posed by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)—events that traumatize children and shape their health later in life. Both ACEs and exposure to lead affect the developing brain and may cause considerable neurological and behavioral challenges.

Join us on February 9 to answer the question: If you had $2.5 million to tackle the challenge of childhood lead exposure and ACEs in Washington, DC, where would you start?

The discussion will feature teams from Howard University and American University, who will share their answers to the challenge, as well as commentary by local health leaders. Debbie I. Chang, M.P.H., Senior Vice President of Policy and Prevention and a Corporate Officer for Nemours Children’s Health System, will provide the Keynote Address.

The event will conclude with a networking lunch.
