The Roundtable on Population Health of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will hold a one-day public workshop exploring trauma-informed approaches to community violence through a health equity lens. This workshop will highlight and explore examples of community based organizations using trauma-informed approaches to treat violence and build safe and healthy communities; strategies to build resilience in children, adults, and communities; hospital and health system violence intervention programs; trauma-informed policing; and the evidence base for the effectiveness of these strategies and approaches to reducing violence and its impact on communities. The workshop is intended to showcase examples that can serve as models in different sectors and communities and share lessons learned in new and compelling ways.
